President of Sydney GOPIO Bhupinder Chhibber says that GYAAN 2014, the GOPIO awards event that recognizes local students who’ve performed well at their HSC exams, will be the one of the biggest events of the Indian community in Sydney this year. GYAAN 2014, to be held at Castle Hill, 1-17 Castle St, 9 February, is expected to have over 400 families at the venue.
Gyan 2014 will also award youth for their talents and achievements in the arts (music, drama, dance, photography and visual arts) and community services.
This year, Chhibber says, GYAAN is being held a month earlier as the organisers feel that students are usually preoccupied with university admissions and other academic plans in March. Chhibber also says that he is trying to persuade other community associations to come under the GOPIO umbrella to have a joint awards event for students and other young achievers. Chhibber says that he feels optimistic about getting the support of United Indian Associations Inc. on this matter.
Chhibber adds that GYAAN 2014 will move away from Bollywood and instead have kathakali, kuchipudi and kathak performances.
Donate To The Indian Sun
Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
