Why the most under-rated month still makes it over the top
We’ve had more snow fall in the past few weeks, topping up our natural snow base of 125cm and providing great cover all over the mountain. August was a fantastic month for skiing at Falls, however looking forward to September often the most under-rated month in Australian skiing, it is shaping up to be even better.
Everything the holiday brochures always say about September skiing is true: the longer days, warmer weather, ‘more forgiving’ snow, uncrowded slopes, great deals on lift passes, rentals and accommodation, afternoons spent in the sunshine out on the deck with your family or your friends, taking in the rays (within reason), and shootin’ the breeze… all true!
However, those spring skiing clichés often undersell the quality and quantity of the snow itself. Many of the best days of skiing and riding in any Australian season are in September. And year after year, Falls Creek really comes into its own later in the season, when we reap the rewards of months of accumulated snowfall and snow-making, and lap it up on the most snowsure, south-facing slopes in Australia.
There’s plenty going on in September and it’s certainly the right time to grab a bargain, with great deals on accommodation, lift, lesson and rental packages, learn to ski and snowboard programs, and heaps of events right up until the last weekend.
