Wyndham residents will say goodbye to clutter and hello to a clean conscience when they join the annual Garage Sale Trail next month.
Households, community groups, charities, local businesses and schools in Wyndham will have the chance to join more than 350,000 other Australians as part of the seventh annual Garage Sale Trail.
Wyndham City’s Environment and Sustainability portfolio holder, Cr Heather Marcus, said the event aims to bring communities together and promote the benefits of reusing items, rather than throwing them away.
“Wyndham City is proud to be one of over 150 local Councils taking part in this event again this year. It’s great that we’re able to bring this national initiative to our residents and help them think about how we can all take responsibility for the waste we create,” Cr Marcus said.
The Garage Sale Trail is a fun way for people to declutter their houses, meet their neighbours and uncover some unique bargains. It also allows people to pass on things that they no longer need or want to someone who does, which is an excellent form of sustainability.
This is the fourth year, said Cr Marcus, that Wyndham City has taken part in the Garage Sale Trail, with the municipality hosting 120 sales last year, more than any other Council in Victoria. “More than1,800 residents took part, more than 17,000 items were up for sale and the average household in Wyndham made $246 in sales at last year’s event, which is a major achievement,” she added.
“For the first time this year’s event will be held over an entire weekend, so I’m excited to see how many people take part. By encouraging people to reuse and recycle things rather than throw them out, we can help to reduce waste in Wyndham. When an item is sold, re-purposed or recycled at a garage sale, it means it is not sent to landfill or disposed of by dumping, which is unfortunately sometimes the case,” Cr Marcus said.
The Garage Sale Trail will be held on Saturday, 21 and Sunday, 22 October. To register your garage sale for free or to see what’s for sale in your area visit www.garagesaletrail.com.au.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
