Victoria’s international award-winning author John Marsden will discuss his lifelong love of reading, which rescued him from boredom and launched him into a writing career

Wyndham City Council is welcoming some of our favourite authors to speak at the city’s libraries next month.

Learning City portfolio holder, Cr Josh Gilligan, said hosting such iconic Australian authors in Wyndham helped to inspire budding writers.

“We have so many talented writers in our community that just need that extra burst of confidence to complete their work or perhaps some tips on how to get a book published,” Cr Gilligan said. “Listening to these authors’ stories is guaranteed to inspire and encourage creativity in our city.”

The talks are also a great social outlet and an opportunity to meet and greet your favourite authors in the flesh, he said.

Among the list of authors who will speak is Victoria’s international award-winning author John Marsden, who will discuss how his lifelong love of reading, which rescued him from boredom and launched him into a writing career.

“He will also discuss his work with the audience and perhaps ignite a creative spark in you,” Cr Gilligan said.

Also on the list is Adam Courtenay who will entertain audiences with the amazing, but little-known, tale from his book The Ship That Never Was, which recounts the escape of convict James Porter from the colony at Port Arthur in 1823.

Depicting more recent history, author and westside local, Enza Gandolfo, will speak about her new book, The Bridge, which paints the story of the collapse of the West Gate Bridge in 1970 which injured 18 and killed 35 construction workers, making it the worst industrial disaster in Australian history.

John Marsden will be at Manor Lakes Library Friday 17 May from 7pm to 8pm. Adam Courtenay will entertain attendees at Werribee Library Watton Street Thursday 2 May from 7pm to 8pm and Enzo Gandolfo will inspire at the Plaza Library Thursday 9 May from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Bookings are required for all talks by visiting www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/libraries or calling 8734 2600.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
