Big Name, No Blankets

Darwin Festival 2024, launched on 28 May, is poised to surpass the achievements of last year’s event, which generated over $20 million for the economy and attracted more than 160,000 attendees. This year’s festival promises an eclectic mix of world premieres, national sell-out shows, iconic Australian musicians, and award-winning comedians. A notable first for the festival is its expansion to Palmerston, offering new food and drink tours and immersive experiences by Darkfield, including Flight and Séance.

Spanning from 8 to 25 August, the festival will host 680 performances over 18 days. Highlights include Big Name, No Blankets, a rock ‘n’ roll theatre show that has captivated audiences nationwide. Additionally, Australia’s top shows are heading north: Tom Gleeson’s stand-up show Gear, The Spiegeltent’s latest production The Party, the critically acclaimed play Fourteen, and the family-friendly hit Cirque Bon Bon.

Darwin Festival will also feature multiple world premiere performances. The highly anticipated Song Spirals by Rosealee Pearson, Tracks Dance’s captivating Cloud Split, and Vital Forces, a new musical work marking the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy, are set to debut.

The closing weekend will be hosted at the iconic Darwin Ski Club, featuring three spectacular concerts by The Cat Empire, Kate Miller-Heidke, and Marlon Williams.

Minister for Major Events, Brent Potter, highlighted the festival’s vibrant impact on the Territory. “The Darwin Festival brings the Territory to life with a variety of free and ticketed events for all ages. This year’s expansion to Palmerston adds an exciting new dimension. We anticipate nearly 200,000 attendees throughout August, who will be dining in our restaurants, booking our hotel rooms, and enjoying our unique lifestyle. Tickets to last year’s popular shows sold out quickly, so early purchase is recommended, with tickets available from 31 May.”
