Australia’s domestic cricket season is set for an action-packed summer with the official schedules for the Sheffield Shield, Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), One-Day Cup, and T20 Spring Challenge now confirmed. This season promises to be a showcase of the country’s top cricketing talent, featuring both seasoned players and rising stars.

The 2024-25 season will provide a stage for these athletes to demonstrate their skills while participating in historic interstate rivalries. The complete schedule is now available on cricket.com.au.
Key highlights of the upcoming season include:
- Four rounds of Sheffield Shield games before the NRMA Insurance Men’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy Series.
- Early Sheffield Shield rounds accommodating nationally contracted players based on their individual preparation needs.
- The T20 Spring Challenge held over 10 days in Sydney and Adelaide, serving as a prelude to the Weber WBBL season and expanding playing opportunities for domestic players.
- Tasmania kicking off their quest for a record fourth consecutive WNCL title against WA on September 24.
- Western Australia defending their Sheffield Shield and One-Day Cup titles against Queensland (October 8-11) and New South Wales (September 22), respectively.
- Six consecutive One-Day Cup games in Sydney and Melbourne marking the start of the men’s domestic season.
- Every state hosting at least three home One-Day Cup matches.
- A weekend finale featuring the One-Day Cup Final on March 1 and the WNCL Final on March 2.
The schedule has been meticulously crafted with input from State and Territory Associations and the Australian Cricketers’ Association. Broadcast and streaming details will be announced closer to the start of the season. Additionally, fixtures and tour matches, including the Prime Minister’s XI and Governor-General’s XI, will be revealed soon.
Peter Roach, Cricket Australia’s Head of Cricket Operations & Scheduling, expressed his enthusiasm: “I’m delighted to announce a full summer of domestic cricket competitions, where the depth and quality of players remains very high. The outstanding performances of our world champion Australian Men’s and Women’s teams are underpinned by the strength of our domestic competitions, which now includes the T20 Spring Challenge. This will create more opportunities for elite female domestic players.”
Roach highlighted the importance of domestic cricket to Australian Cricket’s ongoing success. “Elite domestic cricket is the backbone of our success, and this competition, added to the already strong WNCL and WBBL competitions, will allow more players the opportunity to gain top-level experience and showcase their talents.”
The scheduling of games across both major stadiums and smaller venues aims to provide the best possible experiences for players and fans. Roach concluded, “We look forward to the beginning of our domestic season on September 22 and thank the State and Territory Associations and the Australian Cricketers’ Association for their ongoing support.”
With a comprehensive schedule and a focus on providing ample opportunities for players, this summer of cricket promises to deliver thrilling matches and memorable moments for fans across Australia.
