Nominations for the Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence 2024 are now open, inviting the community to celebrate the exceptional contributions of individuals and organisations in promoting cross-cultural understanding. Coordinated by the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC), these prestigious awards have been recognising the efforts of Victorians in fostering inclusivity for 23 years.

The Multicultural Awards for Excellence (MAEs) shine a spotlight on those who have significantly supported people from migrant, refugee, and asylum seeker backgrounds. By creating an inclusive environment where everyone can participate fully in all aspects of Victorian life, the nominees embody the spirit of multiculturalism. This year, the awards present 14 categories, each reflecting the diverse ways people can contribute to a more inclusive society.

One of the standout features of the 2024 ceremony is the Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll. This initiative recognises local champions of diversity who have played crucial roles in maintaining the safety and cohesion of their communities. Now in its third year, the Honour Roll highlights individuals who have made lasting impacts on multiculturalism in Victoria.

The Victorian Multicultural Honour Roll was introduced to replace the Meritorious Service to the Community category, giving a distinct platform to those who actively promote multicultural civic participation and highlight the social, cultural, and economic benefits of diversity. This initiative aligns with the legislative objectives of the VMC under the Multicultural Victoria Act 2011.

Key stages and dates for the awards are as follows:

  • Nominations open: July 2024
  • Nominations close: 11.59pm, Sunday 8 September 2024
  • Judging period: September 2024
  • Finalists announced: November 2024
  • Awards ceremony: Early December 2024

These awards are a testament to the strength and vibrancy of Victoria’s multicultural community. The VMC encourages everyone to nominate those who have made significant contributions to multiculturalism, ensuring their efforts are recognised and celebrated.

With the nomination period now open, this is the perfect opportunity to acknowledge the heroes of diversity within our communities. The Victorian Multicultural Awards for Excellence 2024 are not just about recognising past achievements but also about inspiring future champions of inclusivity and understanding.
