Museums Victoria is all set to make the spring school holidays unforgettable with an array of STEM-inspired activities that will both educate and entertain young minds. From 23 September to 6 October, families can dive into a mix of unique exhibitions, workshops, and interactive experiences designed to spark curiosity and a love for learning.
One of the standout attractions is Victoria the T. rex, a show-stopping display exclusive to Melbourne Museum. This interactive exhibition offers a rare glimpse of the fossil skeleton of Victoria, a 66-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus. It’s a captivating experience for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages. The exhibition runs daily until 20 October, with ticket prices set to ensure that everyone can take part in this extraordinary encounter with the past.
For the youngest visitors, the Tiny Tours offer a chance to explore the museum’s wonders through the eyes of children aged 3-5. These tours, held on Fridays from 27 September to 4 October, encourage kids to discover how small details can have a big impact in a world dominated by giants. It’s a playful and engaging way to connect with the exhibits.
Another highlight is the Triceratops in Technicolour activity, where children can create their very own augmented reality Triceratops. Using an iPad Pro and guided by simple instructions, kids will be able to design and colour their digital dinosaur, all while having a blast. The sessions run three times a day from 23 September to 4 October, with all the necessary creative tools provided. It’s an adventure in digital artistry that promises to leave lasting memories.
For those looking for a bit of a challenge, 100 Tiny Dinos awaits. Scattered around Melbourne Museum, these miniature dinosaurs offer a fun, free activity for all visitors. The Din-O-Seek challenge invites participants to find as many of the hidden dinos as possible, with the added incentive of potential prizes.
With so much on offer, Museums Victoria is the perfect place to plant the seed for a lifelong passion for STEM during these spring holidays. Whether it’s through the awe-inspiring sight of a T. rex or the thrill of creating a digital dinosaur, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
