Western Australian seniors are getting a new boost to their wallets with the launch of a fuel discount partnership between the State Government and United Petroleum. This new initiative aims to alleviate the pressures of rising living costs by offering a discount of four cents per litre to WA Seniors Card holders.
Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch unveiled the partnership, highlighting its potential to make a real difference for older Australians. The initiative, which allows WA Seniors Card members to save up to $70 a year, involves a simple process. Seniors can either register for a United app or receive a plastic United fuel discount card, both of which will grant them the savings at participating service stations.
The partnership with United Petroleum is a significant step in the Cook Government’s ongoing efforts to reduce the cost of living for seniors. With 34 United Petroleum outlets across Western Australia—including 11 in regional areas—this new discount will reach a broad audience, helping to ease financial pressures in both urban and rural communities.
Minister Punch expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, noting its alignment with other cost-of-living measures. “The WA Seniors Card program continues to expand its valuable benefits to Western Australian seniors during a time where every dollar counts,” Punch said. He emphasised that this partnership, combined with existing support like the Regional Pensioner Travel Card and various concessions and rebates, is designed to provide comprehensive relief to older residents.
The Regional Pensioner Travel Card alone has already benefited over 55,000 regional pensioners by providing $675 per annum towards fuel or taxi travel costs. Additionally, WA Seniors Card members enjoy a variety of other concessions, including discounts on public transport, water rates, and local government rates. The $400 Safety and Security Rebate, available to cardholders, has also been a valuable asset, with more than 30,000 claims processed for home security, electrical, or fire safety items.
Judith Russell, United Petroleum’s Head of Loyalty, praised the partnership, saying, “We are absolutely thrilled to be partnering with the WA Seniors Card program to provide WA Seniors with the opportunity to save four cents per litre off the price of fuel.” She noted that this discount is designed to complement United’s already competitive fuel prices, providing added relief for seniors facing the impact of rising costs.
Seniors interested in taking advantage of this offer can register online for the United app or request a plastic discount card. The app provides immediate access to the discount, while the plastic card will be mailed within five to 15 business days. The discount can be used once per day for up to 150 litres of fuel per transaction at participating United service stations.
This new fuel discount initiative is part of the broader efforts by the Cook Government to support older Western Australians. With the cost of living steadily rising, the Government remains committed to finding practical solutions to ease financial pressures for seniors. By partnering with United Petroleum, the Government is ensuring that fuel savings are directly accessible to those who need it most.
For further details on how to register for the United Fuel Discount Card or to learn more about the WA Seniors Card benefits, seniors can contact the WA Seniors Card Centre or visit the United Petroleum website. This partnership not only delivers immediate savings at the bowser but also reinforces the Government’s commitment to supporting its senior citizens through practical and effective measures.
