Award-winning chef Mischa Tropp is set to open his most ambitious venture yet, Kolkata Cricket Club, a restaurant and sports bar in Melbourne’s Crown precinct. Known for his innovative venues and pop-up collaborations, Tropp’s latest project, launching on 7 December, draws inspiration from Kolkata’s classic cricket clubs and members bars, blending nostalgia with modern flair.

The Kolkata Cricket Club menu will feature Tropp’s spin on pan-Indian and Bengali dishes, evoking the energy and charm of India’s post-independence social hubs. The venue design, headed by Min-Chun Tseng—famous for Toddy Shop by Marthanden Hotel—captures the elegance and warmth of an old-school club. The space offers two distinct experiences: the vibrant Sports Bar and the refined KCC Dining Room, together accommodating up to 150 guests.

The Sports Bar combines a lively social atmosphere with comfort food and cricket on the big screens. Guests can sample Tropp’s playful “chips and curry” or share a thali while watching a match. The kitchen’s woodfire hearth and tandoor ovens, crafted by Samuel Fraraccio, add a rustic touch, serving up hot tandoori meats, seafood, and naan.

For those seeking a more elegant dining experience, the KCC Dining Room delivers with Tropp’s signature Indian classics

For those seeking a more elegant dining experience, the KCC Dining Room delivers with Tropp’s signature Indian classics, including his famed butter chicken. Guests can choose a ‘Feed Me’ set menu, offering a range of flavours from the tandoor and fire pit, alongside thoughtful sides that showcase Tropp’s culinary artistry.

Named Australian Gourmet Traveller’s Best New Talent of 2024, Tropp is excited to expand the reach of Indian cuisine, stating, “It’s been an incredible year for Indian cooking, and I’m thrilled to bring these flavours to a wider audience into 2025. Some might think you need an expert’s palate, but Kolkata Cricket Club is designed to appeal to every taste.”

Crown Melbourne CEO, Mike Volkert, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “We’re thrilled to welcome Mischa Tropp and Kolkata Cricket Club to our culinary family. This unique Indian restaurant and sports bar promises an experience that will set Melbourne abuzz.”

Kolkata Cricket Club opens its doors on 7 December, welcoming guests from 5 pm Wednesday through Sunday, with bookings available from next week. Walk-ins are also welcome, making it easy for everyone to step into the flavours of India’s cricket culture.
