Malaysia Airlines expands horizons: New routes, free Wi-Fi and a Kolkata comeback

Malaysia Airlines (MH), the national carrier of Malaysia, is the only full-service carrier providing non-stop direct flights from Australia and New Zealand to Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia Airlines operates 53 weekly services from Auckland, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth to its hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Serving as the gateway to Asia, the airline offers seamless connectivity to over 50 destinations in Malaysia, ASEAN, North Asia, South Asia, the UK, and Europe.

Malaysia Airlines provides enhanced connectivity from its main hub in Kuala Lumpur and has recently launched direct flights to four new destinations: daily flights to the Maldives beginning 1 August 2024; five times weekly flights to Chiang Mai beginning 15 August 2024; daily flights to Da Nang beginning 24 September 2024; and daily flights to Paris beginning 29 March 2025.

Malaysia Airlines is excited to announce the reinstatement of direct flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Kolkata (CCU), starting 2 December 2024, further expanding its footprint in India and enhancing seamless travel options for passengers. This will bring the airline’s direct connectivity to India to 10 destinations, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kochi, Amritsar, Trivandrum, and Ahmedabad.

The airline will operate five weekly flights on this route, using Boeing 737-800 aircraft. This strategic move follows the successful commencement of daily operations to Amritsar last month, reflecting Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to strengthening its presence in one of its leading international markets. With the recommencement of this flight and increased frequencies from Amritsar, the airline now offers an impressive 76 weekly flights between India and Malaysia.

Travellers flying from Australia and New Zealand with Malaysia Airlines via Kuala Lumpur to onward destinations can also take the opportunity to experience its Bonus Side Trip programme, offering the convenience of a stopover in Malaysia to explore its cultural gems at minimal costs. Passengers can enjoy a bonus side trip to one of seven destinations in Malaysia, including Alor Setar, Langkawi, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu, Kuantan, and Penang. Whether for a weekend away or an extended trip with extra baggage, Malaysia Airlines offers flexible fare options across its network. Economy Flex Fare includes a cabin baggage allowance of 7kg, 35kg of checked baggage, access to standard seat selection, the ability to rebook or change tickets with no fee, complimentary meals, and more. Passengers can also enjoy perks such as priority check-in, priority boarding, and priority baggage, ensuring a hassle-free travel experience.

For those who enjoy a premium travel experience, the Business Class fare offers a check-in baggage allowance of 40kg, two cabin baggage allowances of 7kg each, free seat selection, complimentary meals, priority check-in, boarding, and baggage, along with access to the airline’s top-notch lounges. Thanks to a partnership with BMW Group Malaysia, Enrich Platinum, Business Suite, and Business Class passengers travelling with Malaysia Airlines and departing from KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 can now enjoy an exclusive private terminal transfer service. They will be transported in premium comfort with the all-electric BMW i7 between the Main Terminal Building and the Satellite Building.

Malaysia Airlines now offers free Wi-Fi to all passengers travelling on selected widebody aircraft, regardless of cabin class or loyalty tier. Passengers can stay connected throughout their journey, whether for work or personal connections. The service is currently available on 20 selected widebody aircraft and will be rolled out on narrowbody aircraft in phases.

With the airline’s Time for Kolkata campaign, fares start from AUD 1,029 all-in return economy from Perth and AUD 1,219 from Adelaide, Melbourne, and Sydney, available for sale now for travel from 2 December 2024.
