Mumbai-born co-founder of internationally renowned London-based design studio Doshi Levien, Nipa Doshi, joins Sydney Design Week 2022.

Doshi will present a keynote on the importance of cross-cultural perspectives in Levien’s work for leading manufacturers such as B&B Italia, Moroso, Kvadrat, Kettal and Cappellini as well as cultural institutions such as Sevres—Cité de la Céramique, and for their Paris-based gallery, Kreo.

Doshi grew up in India and studied at the National Institute of Design. Her resulting practice is rooted in her plural upbringing and astute eye for visual culture. The layering of research, materiality, and the tactility of the Doshi Levien design process—painting, sculpting, colour making—results in work that is distinguished by a clarity of ideas and seemingly effortless attention to detail.

The Sydney Design Week 2022 is a seven-day program of exhibitions, talks, film screenings and workshops presented by Powerhouse with the support of Principal Partner Holdmark across the city’s design hubs from 15-22 September, a Powerhouse press release said.

Curated by writer, editor and Creative Director Stephen Todd, the 2022 program Making Now examines the role of design across a range of disciplines, from industrial and interior design to graphics, scenography, restaurant design and more.

“Sydney Design Week celebrates designers who are defining the cultural moment in Sydney and around the world. This year’s theme ‘Making Now’ expands the parameters of ‘design’ to explore myriad expressions across disciplines and industries. The program will set the scene for the future of design,” said Todd.

New Australian Design, an exhibition curated by Local Design Director Emma Elizabeth, will present new works by over 20 Australian designers.

Visionary Canadian designer, author and co-founder and CEO of Chicago-based holistic design collective Massive Change Network, Bruce Mau will present a keynote in partnership with UNSW Arts, Design & Architecture on Mau’s life-centred design principles in the context of the city, setting the stage for their new collaboration titled Massive Action Sydney (Powerhouse Ultimo, 18 September).

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.
